Storm closures and cancellations for Saturday, Sept 16

Hurricane Lee is impacting the Halifax area overnight, which has led to many delays and cancellations.
Here’s what’s closed.
TRANSPORTATION:
Residents are urged to remain off the roads for non-essential travel as there are several reports of downed trees and powerlines across the region. Many shoreline roads are now closed due to washouts and impassible conditions.Residents are requested to report any damage to 311.

Halifax Transit says ferry services suspended operations at 10:15 a.m. Conventional bus, ferry and Access-A-Bus trips are expected to continue as scheduled.
Halifax Stanfield was reporting many cancellations and delays Saturday morning and urged passengers to check with their airlines about the status of their flights.
The MacKay bridge is closed to high-sided vehicles due to high winds.
BUSINESSES:
All Irving Shipbuilding locations (Halifax Shipyard, Bluenose Building, Marine Fabricators, and Woodside Industries) will be closed over the weekend. The following shifts: Saturday Day Shift, Saturday Afternoon Shift, Sunday Day Shift, and Sunday Afternoon Shift are cancelled.
Halifax Shopping Centre is closing for the day at 5 p.m.
SOLID WASTE:
Please note the following closures/cancellations in effect for Saturday, September 16:
• The mobile Household Special Waste event planned for at the Eastern Shore Community Centre is cancelled and will be rescheduled.
• The permanent Household Special Waste Depot located at 20 Horseshoe Lake Drive will be closed.
• The Middle Musquodoboit Rural Refuse Depot located at 249 Sibley Road, Middle Musquodoboit will be closed.
• The Sheet Harbour Rural Refuse Depot located at 21611 Nova Scotia Trunk 7, Sheet Harbour will be closed.
SERVICES:
Peggys Cove is closed to the public. Residents are advised to avoid shoreline areas as they pose an extreme risk, especially during peak tides. In addition to Peggys Cove, areas of significant concern are the Eastern Shore and the Bedford, Halifax and Dartmouth waterfronts.
All trails on Crown land managed under NRR agreements are closed. After the storm, check with your local trail organization about reopening or check with @NSTrails for longer-term closures.
Due to weather conditions, downed trees and widespread power outages, all municipal parks and most municipal recreation facilities will be closed for the remainder of the day. Contact your local recreation centre for more information.
All grass fields, all-weather fields and the Halifax Public Gardens will be closed this weekend. Residents may check field conditions on our website.
Due to weather conditions and widespread power outages all branches of the Halifax Public Libraries will be closed for the remainder of the day.
SCHOOLS:
Due to the impacts of Hurricane Lee, including a power outage affecting most of campus, Mount Saint Vincent University will remain closed until at least 12 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, 2023. This closure includes the Library and Fitness Centre.
