Environment Canada issues ‘Special Weather Statement’ for Nova Scotia in advance of Saturday storm

By CityNews Halifax staff

It looks like it will be a wet and windy start to the weekend around HRM.

Environment Canada issued a Special Weather Statement on Thursday morning covering the entire province warning of significant rain on Saturday.

The national forecaster says a low-pressure system will approach Nova Scotia on Saturday morning, bringing heavy rain and strong winds.

The latest info on the storm is that it could bring anywhere from 40-70 mm of rain Saturday, possibly more in some areas.  The system is also expected to bring wind gusts ranging from 70-90 km/h.

Environment Canada said there is still some uncertainty in the track of the storm.  The strongest winds are expected over the Eastern half of the province, and similar storms in the past have caused hazardous driving conditions, localized flooding, and scattered utility outages.
