The LaHave cable ferry is being temporarily taken out of service, which will have impacts on commuters.

According to the province, the Lunenburg County ferry is being taken out of service today for its five-year refit required by transport canada

The cable ferry will be towed to Meteghan for the work, which is expected to take six to eight weeks to complete.

The temporary closure of the service will force residents in the area to drive an extra 36 kilometres to get from one dock to the other.

The LaHave ferry operates year-round and departs every 15 minutes and is named for Brady E. Himmelman, who operated the ferry at LaHave from 1948 until 1983.
