The Halifax Mooseheads fell 5-3 as they hosted Joseph Henneberry and the Cape Breton Eagles in the second game of a home and home series between the two clubs to end off 2024.
This comes after the Eagles won the first match Monday evening with a dominating 8-2 victory over the Herd.
The Mooseheads gave the home fans a reason to cheer early as Liam Kilfoil sniped home his first goal since Nov. 30 through the five hole of the Eagles netminder with the help of newest acquisition Quinn Kennedy who found Kilfoil by the side of the Eagles net on the power play.
Carrier added to the Mooseheads lead on the man advantage eight minutes into the second period. Brady Schlutz found Carrier at the point who fired a shot bouncing off a man in front and into the Eagles net. Cape Breton responded less than a minute later as Cam Squires snuck a puck past Mathis Rousseau in close and into the Mooseheads net assisted by Joseph Henneberry and Jacob Newcombe.
The Eagles evened up the game 40 seconds into the third period, Tomas Lavoie hammering a shot past Rousseau and into the Moosehead net to make it a brand new-contest. The Moose retook the lead three minutes later as Antoine Fontaine found the twine of the Eagles net thanks to a behind the net assist by Braedon MacPhee.
Cape Breton returned fire with two quick goals halfway through the third period. Romain Litalien struck first, tipping a shot by Will Murphy past Rousseau then 20 seconds later Lewis Gendron beat Rousseau to give the Eagles their first lead of the game. Jacob Newcombe added an empty net goal to give the Eagles the victory at the Scotiabank Centre.
With the loss the Herd fall to 11-18-5 while the Eagles improve to 16-14-4.
