Pictou man faces slew of charges after two vehicles are stolen

Police say a man is facing a laundry list of charges in connection to multiple stolen vehicles this week.

On Wednesday, at roughly 10:40 a.m., Colchester County RCMP learned that a truck, which had been reported stolen from Truro that morning, was in Colchester County.

According to RCMP, the truck had been abandoned in Carrolls Corner and the man involved was believed to be in a different vehicle that had just been reported stolen.

Officers found the stolen GMC Sierra and used a spike belt to disable it in Crows Mills.

Mounties said the driver attempted to run on foot but he was found and arrested in Belmont by RCMP Police Dog Services.

He suffered non-life threatening injuries during the arrest and was taken to hospital by EHS.

Jarom Merriam, 41, of Pictou, is facing a slew of charges including flight from peace officers, dangerous operation of a conveyance, uttering threats, mischief, possession of property obtained by crime, and assaulting a peace officer.

Police said more charges are expected from the Truro Police Service in connection to the initial robbery.

He appeared in court on Thursday and remains in custody pending future court appearances.
