Price of gas, diesel surge as energy board invokes interrupter

The price of gas and diesel oil changed on Wednesday as the Nova Scotia Energy Board invoked its interrupter clause.

The NSEB said the change was necessary due to significant shifts in the market price.

Regular self-serve gasoline went up 8.9 cents to rest at 147.7 cents per litre on Wednesday. Diesel also increased by 7.6 cents to 191.2 cents per litre.

The previous price for self-serve regular gas was 138.8, while the price for diesel oil was 183.6.

While the provincial regulator did not provide a reason for the increase, many experts have been projecting that fuel prices would surge in North America this week as the conflict in the Middle East has impacted world oil prices. The Strait of Hormuz, a waterway controlled by Iran where one-fifth of the world’s oil is shipped, is closed because of the ongoing conflict.

Fuel prices are typically adjusted on Fridays in Nova Scotia.
