Parks Canada has lifted the temporary road and ground closures at Halifax Citadel National Historic Site. The grounds of Halifax Citadel National Historic Site, including all the green space, the perimeter road, and pathways, including the pathway on Brunswick Street leading to the Old Town Clock, are now open for public access. The fort, including its parking lot, remains closed until further notice.

This aligns with the lifting of the temporary closure of its green spaces by the Halifax Regional Municipality. All recommendations from public health experts to help limit the spread of COIVD-19, such as physical distancing and size of groups, remain in place to protect everyone, including those most at risk in our community.

Parks Canada is aware of the announcement by the Government of Nova Scotia regarding the easing of COVID-19 restrictions in regards to provincial parks, trails and recreational fishing. It is important to note that all visitor services, visitor facilities and vehicle access continue to be suspended at Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site and Cape Breton Highlands National Park until further notice. Camping, group activities and events are also temporarily suspended until at least May 31, 2020. Parks Canada implemented these measures to support Canada’s efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the health and safety of Canadians, visitors and Parks Canada team members.

Parks Canada looks forward to reopening and will continue to regularly assess its suspension of services. We are taking the necessary time required to establish protocols to ensure a safe environment for Nova Scotians, as well as Parks Canada team members.

Detailed information on Parks Canada places and the measures the Agency is taking to limit the spread of COVID-19 can be found at pc.gc.ca. Please check regularly for updates.
