Potential COVID-19 exposure at downtown Halifax gym

By Chris Stoodley

Nova Scotia Public Health is advising of a potential high-risk COVID-19 exposure at a downtown Halifax gym.

The exposure site was at the Fit4Less gym on Dresden Row off of Spring Garden Road.

Public Health says it's investigating a confirmed case of someone who had spent time in the weights area.

Anyone who was at the location in the weights area on June 16 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. should immediately self-isolate and conduct an online self-assessment to book a COVID-19 test or call 811, regardless of whether or not they have symptoms.

People who have been potentially exposed to COVID-19 at this exposure site should not go directly to a pop-up rapid testing location or a mobile testing unit.

Public Health says it anticipates anyone that might've been exposed to the virus at this location could develop symptoms up to, and including, June 30.

“You must continue self-isolating for 14 days, whether or not you have symptoms, even with a negative test result,” a news release says.

That means people potentially exposed at this location must self-isolate until June 30 at 11:59 p.m.

Public Health also says these people must get tested again between June 22 to 24. Another test must be taken between June 28 to 30.

“If your test result is positive you will be notified by Public Health directly,” the news release says.

Employees who worked at this location at the specified time but were not in the weights area are encouraged to get tested.

“When Nova Scotia Health Public Health makes a public notification it is not in any way a reflection on the behaviour or activities of those named in the notification,” the news release says.
