Argyle and Grafton shared streetscape project nominated for best transformation

By Andrew Pinsent

Halifax's transformation of Argyle and Grafton streets into a modern shared streetscape is being noticed south of the border.

Urban planning and design website Streetsblog USA has picked the stretch as one of six nominees in their online poll of best urban street transformations of 2017.

The website notes the revamped streets prioritize pedestrians over cars, improving accessibility.

“All on-street parking was removed to give businesses bigger patio spaces,” the website says. “The streets operate as a public plaza.”

Voting on the project is now open with Halifax competing against streets in Albuquerque, Cleveland, St. Paul, Austin and Toronto.
