Crystal Crescent Beach Provincial Park closed until further notice

Crystal Crescent Beach Provincial Park is closed until further notice.

According to Nova Scotia Provincial Parks, it shut down at 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 13.

Late last week, the carcass of an endangered blue whale washed ashore there and public access to the second and third beaches was restricted.

The Marine Animal Response Society had said they planned to collect samples from the whale, and hoped to perform a necropsy before disposing of its carcass.

On Friday, MARS response specialist Andrew Reid told the Canadian Press that would be tricky because it was surrounded by rocky terrain and it would be difficult to reach with heavy equipment.

It's expected the park will reopen Thursday morning at 8 a.m. You can check the beach's status online.
