Funeral for Barho children to be held Saturday

The funeral for the seven Barho children killed in a house fire earlier this week will be held Saturday afternoon.

Halifax Regional Municipality says the service for Ahmad, Rola, Mohamad, Ola, Hala, Rana, and Abdullah will take place at the Cunard Centre.

Attendees are asked to arrive at 1:30 p.m. for the 2 p.m. service.

“The formal, traditional Muslim part of the service will be about a half an hour to 45 minutes and afterwards there will be some other people from the community invited to speak,” explained Deputy Mayor Tony Mancini. 

Mancini told NEWS 95.7's The Rick Howe Show, after the service the children will be taken to a cemetery in Hammonds Plains.

“There will be buses available to shuttle people who wish to go from the Cunard Centre, to Hammonds Plains, and back to the Cunard Centre,” Mancini said.

On Facebook, the Ummah Masjid And Community Center says all are welcome to participate.

A GoFundMe page for the family was nearing $500,000 in donations as of 10 a.m. Friday.

Haligonians have also been putting teddy bears and other stuffed animals on their doorsteps and in their windows in honour of the Barho children.
