With COVID-19 restrictions prompting the cancellation of all major events and large gatherings, Halifax Busker Festival, originally scheduled for July 29 to August 3, is, in true street performer fashion, twisting and transforming itself into a digital festival for its 34th year.

Festival producers are developing on an online version of the event that will allow people to see their favourite artists perform and offer the ability to tip their hats through on-line donations. Details will be released soon, with the online festival taking place in the same timeframe as the original event.

“We're used to seeing some amazing feats at Halifax Busker Festival, but this year we're doing our biggest trick yet – we're going digital!” says festival producer Kim Hendrickson. “We aren’t going to let COVID-19 take away our fun. We have committed fans who look forward to this event each year and we don’t want to let them down, so we are bringing the excitement and performers into their homes.”

Artists will perform sets created exclusively for Halifax audiences, and the event will feature past festival favourites. There will also be musical performances as part of an online version of the Nova Scotia Marquee Music Stage.

Halifax Busker Festival, known world-wide for bringing high caliber street performers from around the world, draws an average of 250,000 people to the Halifax Waterfront each year. After consultations with stakeholders, it became clear the festival could not proceed as usual under current regulations around large group gatherings and international travel.

For updates on the festival visit www.buskers.ca, or follow the festival on Facebook at HalifaxBuskers, and Twitter and Instagram at @BuskersHFX.

Halifax Busker Festival producers would like to thank the Atlantic Buskers Festival Society, Government of Canada, City of Halifax, Government of Nova Scotia, Develop Nova Scotia, sponsors and the public for their ongoing support and dedication to the festival.
