Halifax Regional School Board has added two more schools to the closure list.

Earlier Thursday, they sent students home at eight schools because the schools did not have power.

Just before 1 p.m., they upped that to ten schools.

The following schools have been closed early:

  • St. Stephen's Elementary
  • Highland Park Junior High
  • Atlantic Memorial-Terence Bay (both sites)
  • Atlantic View Elementary
  • Brookside Junior High
  • Fairview Heights Elementary (Main Building Only, Annex has power)
  • Herring Cove Junior High
  • Porters Lake Elementary
  • Prospect Road Elementary
  • William King Elementary

Halifax Regional School Board spokesperson Doug Hadley said for students in Grades Primary to 6, someone in the school will contact every parent or designate by phone before releasing the student from school.

“Whether they are going home on a bus, whether they are walking, or whether someone is coming to pick them up, they actually make direct phone calls with parents to ensure that the communication is taking place and the parents realize that the daily operation of the school has been altered,” he said.
