High wind gusts knock out power to thousands in Halifax area (updated)

A windy night knocked out power to thousands of residents in the Halifax area.
During the most powerful winds, more than 7,000 people were without power in HRM but crews were able to retore a large outage covering Lower Sackville to East Uniacke around 6 a.m.
With high winds forecasted overnight throughout the province, we’ll be keeping a close eye on the weather. Our crews will be on standby tonight and ready to respond to any outages.

Those outages are being blamed on high winds and rain.
Wind gusts touched 80 km/h thoughout parts of the municipality overnight and according to unofficial data from Environment Canada, the region was soaked in roughly 26 millimetres of rain.
