High winds have knocked out power to thousands of Nova Scotians

By CityNews Halifax Staff

Extreme cold temperatures and high winds have caused a wave of power outages across Nova Scotia.

As of 11:20 AM, there are over 20,000 customers across the province without power. Over 400 of those customers are in the HRM, mostly along the eastern shore according the the NS Power Outage Map.

A social media post from David Hendsbee — the councillor for that area — says anyone who needs power or a place to warm up can drop by the Old School Gathering Place in Musquodoboit Harbour.

Those who need transportation to the shelter or assistance can call 902-889-2735.

Nova Scotia's emergency management office is reminding people to not use BBQs, camping stoves, or fuel-powered heaters indoors.
