HMCS Fredericton heads to the Mediterranean for Operation Reassurance

By CityNews Halifax Staff

HMCS Fredericton departed Halifax Harbour Sunday on a six month deployment in support of NATO operations in Europe.

The ship will be participating in Operation Reassurance, an initiative that began 9 years ago.

The vessel and its 256 sailors will join other NATO ships in the Mediterranean Sea where Russia's invasion of Ukraine has risen tensions in the region.

This marks the 21st Royal Canadian Navy  ship to deploy on this NATO mission and the 5th time for Fredericton.
