HRM Auditor General finds many 2019 recommendations have yet to be implemented

By CityNews Halifax Staff

The Auditor General for the Halifax Regional Municipality says there's still lots of work left to do as she looks back at her audits from 2019.

Evangeline Colman-Sadd released a follow-up Wednesday morning, looking back at audits on payroll management, the purchasing card program, and roads and sidewalks asset management.

Colman-Sadd said only 63 per cent of recommendations have been put in place:

  • Payroll Management – 56% implemented
  • Purchasing Card Program – 100% implemented
  • Roads and Sidewalks Asset Management – 40% implemented

“Overall, our follow-up of 2019 audits has shown a decline in recommendations implemented over prior years,” she said in a news release. “Management told us COVID-19 was a factor in not completing some of the recommendations.”

“We will continue to follow up on the outstanding recommendations in the future.”
