HALIFAX – HRM has announced it purchased a piece of property near Sir Sandford Fleming Park.
The city announced Friday it acquired a 100,188 square foot lot and 22,500 square foot water lot, abutting the park.
“I'm very happy for the residents and the users of the park,” said District 9 Councillor Shawn Cleary. “The Loop Road Trail is part of the historical park but a big portion of it was private land. But now it's officially part of Sir Sanford Fleming Park.”
HRM spokesperson Erin DiCarlo confirmed the city purchased the property at the listed price of $990,000.
“This was based on council direction,” said DiCarlo. “The purchase price was supported by an independent appraisal.”
According to Cleary, this is an important acquisition that will expand upon the park and keep the Loop Road Trail safe.
