HRM’s new parking payment system kicks in Tuesday

There's a new pay to pay for parking in Halifax Regional Municipality. Parking meters are out and pay stations are in.
As Thanksgiving is a holiday, on-street parking is free today, then the new paid parking system kicks in Tuesday, Oct. 13.
Parts of the peninsula have been divided up into zones A, B, C, D, E, F and G. It will cost $2 an hour to park for the first two hours and $6 an hour after that, with a maximum of 4 hours in any zone.
Downtown Dartmouth is Zone H, which will cost $1.50 an hour for the first two hours and $4 an hour after that, with a maximum of 4 hours in the zone.
HRM's new parking zonesHaligonians can pay by coin, debit, credit or with their smartphones. Just park the car, make note of the zone on the nearby sign, head to a pay station and input your licence plate number along with other relevant information.
“You don't need to return back to your vehicle, you don't need to display a receipt,” said the municipality's manager of parking services, Victoria Horne, in an interview last month.
If you use the HotSpot app, you can log your session there and you don't need to find a pay station.

HRM has also activated a new online parking Permit & Ticket Management Portal.
This is where we can manage residential and commuter parking permits, however we can still visit an in-person Customer Service Centre to register for, and purchase permits.
The municipality says it's best to create an account on Halifax.ca/parking before the first monthly permit release on Thursday, Oct. 15.
Haligonians can also pay for any parking tickets issued on, or after, Oct. 7 through the new portal.
Tickets issued on, or before Oct. 6 need to be paid through the old parking ticket payment portal.
