ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships coming to Lake Banook in 2022

Lake Banook has been picked to host the 2022 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships.
A release from Canoe Kayak Canada says the Dartmouth facility was chosen over Russian and Romanian bids.
“As a former athlete who has grown up paddling on Lake Banook, and who has had the experience of racing at a world championship here, I am extremely excited to show the world the great depth of our paddling community,” said LA Dempster, who is co-chairing the Canoe '22 event with Chris Keevill.
Athletes from 70 countries are expected to compete.
Before the event, there will be infrastructure upgrades to the current judge's tower and Atlantic Division Racing Centre along with the addition of wakeless pontoon boats and a permanent video broadcast anchoring system
Funding for the event will come from all three levels of government, along with corporate sponsors, and participating countries.
Dartmouth also hosted previous Senior World Championships in 2009 and 1997 and the Junior World Championships in 1987.
In January, it was announced Lake Banook would also be hosting the 2018 Pan American Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe Championships from September 13 to 16, 2018.
