Iconic Shubenacadie Tree felled by Fiona

By CityNews Halifax Staff

It was an iconic symbol for many motorists travelling Highway 102 between Halifax and Truro.

Many Nova Scotians say the Shubenacadie Tree has stood for 300 years but even the long-standing red oak couldn't withstand the power of post-tropical storm Fiona.

Hurricane-strength winds felled the much-admired tree which has been photographed by thousands of both professional and amateur shutterbugs.

As renowned Nova Scotia photographer Len Wagg, tweeted, “our favourite tree in the province is gone.”
