Jill 92.9 takes over airwaves on International Women’s Day

By CityNews Halifax Staff

Regular listeners of Jack 92.9 will notice something a little different on Sunday, March 8.

In honour of International Women’s Day, the radio station will be calling itself Jill 92.9 for the day.

This is the second year in a row for the Jill 92.9 takeover.

Morning show co-host Caroline Parker says all day long, listeners can expect to hear songs by female artists and groups.

“It was such a success last year everybody loved hearing the most amazing female artists over the last five decades taking part, so we thought hey we're going to do it again, why not,” she says.

Parker says she's excited about the change but wishes the switch to Jill 92.9 could be permanent.

“I have one beef with international women's day, that it's only one day. Women should be celebrated 365 days of the year,” she adds.

Afternoon drive host Nicolle Bellefontaine says even the segments in between songs will be changed to fit the new format.

“It's important because I think that sometimes as women we put ourselves last,” she told HalifaxToday.ca. “So it's another opportunity to actually showcase and celebrate what we do in our own little way and our own lives as well as the accomplishments.”

Bellefontaine says when she started in radio, female hosts were few and far between, but things have come a long way.

“I have been in this industry for a long time, and we know where there's room for growth, and there's always room for growth,” she explains.

The takeover began on Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. and will continue until Sunday at midnight.

Jill 92.9/Jack 92.9 is owned by Rogers Communications, a partner of HalifaxToday.ca.
