Local film industry ‘busier than ever’: Screen Nova Scotia director

The local film industry is “busier than ever” according to Screen Nova Scotia’s director, but the province still lacks some necessities required to take full advantage of the recent industry boom.
“It’s up to us to be really competitive to ensure that we’re going to be able to attract production here,” Laura Mackenzie told NEWS 95.7’s The Rick Howe Show. “There is a tidal wave of production that’s been coming across Canada since 2015, since 2014, since the streamers really started to spend their production budgets in Canada.”
In the past few years, numerous films and television shows have been filmed in Nova Scotia.
The Halifax-shot legal drama Diggstown was recently picked up by FOX; the science fiction-horror thriller television show The Mist was adapted from Stephen King’s novel and filmed in Nova Scotia; parts of Netflix’s supernatural horror show Locke & Key was filmed in Lunenburg and psychological horror film The Lighthouse — starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe — was filmed in Yarmouth.
