By Meghan Groff

Satisfaction with Nova Scotia's Progressive Conservative government is strong.

According to the latest quarterly poll by Narrative Research, 67 per cent of Nova Scotians are satisfied with the overall performance of Tim Houston's newly elected team.

“Since assuming power, Premier Houston and his team have taken a firm stance on COVID-19 pandemic preventative measures. Swift actions were also put in place to address PC campaign promises, most notably the plan to reform health care, introduction of a fixed election date, and introduction of its climate change bill,” said the polling company's CEO Margaret Brigley.

“While the government's first session of the Legislature was not without drama, findings show Nova Scotians strongly endorse the new government's actions to date.”

Tim Houston is also the preferred choice for premier of 38 per cent of respondents, 19 per cent would like to see Iain Rankin return to lead the province, while 16 per cent want the next leader of the NDP.

The Green's new leader Anthony Edmonds is favoured by 3 per cent, while 2 per cent support the Atlantica Party's Jonathan Dean.

If an election were held today, 42 per cent of decided voters indicate they'd vote for the PCs, who captured 38 per cent of the popular vote in the August.

Twenty-six per cent would cast their ballot for the Liberals, which is just two points ahead of the NDP who would have 24 per cent of the decided vote.

Five per cent would vote Green and two per cent for the People's Party of Canada.

“Voting intentions for the PCs is higher among older residents and those with higher annual household incomes,” said Narrative Research in a news release. “Preference for the NDP is higher among younger residents.”

The results are based on a sample of 800 adult Nova Scotians through a telephone survey conducted from November 4 to November 21, with overall results accurate to within ± 3.5 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
