The official grand opening of Eastern Passage's new high school was held Thursday.
Island View High School is currently home to more than 400 students, but has a capacity of 600.
“I'm just happy to have a brand new school which is modern, state-of-the-art and really progressive in its design that I know is going to help those teachers and administration deliver high quality education to the students,” said Education Minister Zach Churchill in a media scrum at Province House.
The building located at 1853 Caldwell Rd. will serve the Cow Bay, Shearwater and Eastern Passage communities.
Churchill said the opening will not affect Cole Harbour High School or Auburn Drive High School.
“Specifics on this will be announced in the near future but we're looking at enhancing the skilled trades aspect of Cole Harbour,” he explained. “So both schools are going to stay open.”
Island View High School cost $25 million to build.
