Nova Scotia Power expecting outages during weekend storm

Nova Scotia Power says it expects we'll see outages across the province when a storm impacts the region starting on Friday.

The utility says it will be opening its emergency operations centre at 10 a.m. Friday and will be ready to respond to outages when it's safe to do so. 

“No one wants to lose their power, especially heading into the holidays,” said Sean Borden, NS Power Storm Lead. “We have been monitoring the forecasts for several days and are positioning crews across the province so we can respond as safely and quickly as possible. We will do everything we can to try to ensure the least amount of disruption to customers' holiday plans.”

Environment Canada updated its special weather statement Thursday morning. offering more details on what it's calling a “powerful storm”. 

The national forecaster says Nova Scotians will see up to 50 mm of rain, winds gusting to 90 km/h or higher and there's potential for storm surge along the coast. 

The storm expected to start impacting the South Shore around noon Friday, moving across the province through the day. 

Conditions are expected to improve on Saturday.
