Playwright brings his acclaimed work home to Dartmouth

A local artist is bringing his Governor General's Award-nominated one-man show back home to Dartmouth.

Following a slew of performances and accolades across the rest of the country, Dartmouth native Jivesh Parasram is premiering his show, Take d Milk, Nah? for one night at Eastern Front Theatre's Alderney Landing Theatre.

A humourous, skeptical take on the identity play, Take d Milk, Nah? blends personal storytelling and ritual to offer the “Hin-dos and Hin-don’ts” of Parasram's upbringing as a multi-ethnic Canadian as well as delivers a candid, funny look at race, religion and nationalism.

As EFT’s artistic director, Kat McCormack, says, she thinks Paraseram's acclaimed 90-minute show is a unique experience for local theatregoers.

“This show has garnered such huge praise across the country, and we are so often left out of that national conversation when it comes to theatre,” says McCormack in a news release. “It feels only right that we get a chance to hear from someone who grew up here, and how it shaped him.”

Take d Milk, Nah?  was a finalist for the Governor General's Literary Award in drama in 2021 and will premiere at Alderney Landing Theatre on March 29 at 7:30 p.m..

Tickets are available online, starting at $20. For more information, visit EFT's website.
