Police reminding motorists to stay off the road

By CityNews Halifax Staff

Halifax Regional Police are urging motorists to continue to keep of the roads today even though post-tropical storm Fiona has moved on from the region.

HRP spokesperson Const. John MacLeod says there are extended power outages throughout Halifax Regional Municipality and police say, despite these conditions, many vehicles are on the road this morning, which is adding to the unsafe conditions.

“Halifax Regional Police would urge citizens, if they can, to stay home,” says MacLeod. “There is still extensive flooding throughout the city in isolated areas, downed power lines and debris on many streets.

He adds that is it highly suggested that if people don't need to be on the streets, to stay at home.

Police say emergency services are fully functional but extensive traffic may delay emergency vehicles and cause problems for clean-up crews and utility workers.
