Halifax Regional Police are looking for a potential witness as they investigate the homicide of Linda Lamontagne.
Ryan Lamontagne, 26, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his mother.
Police were called to Willow Street, near North and Windsor streets, at around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22 to investigate suspicious circumstances.
When they arrived, they found the body of 65-year-old Linda Lamontagne in the backyard of a home.
Ryan Lamontagne was also in the yard and was arrested without incident.
Investigators believe someone may have given Ryan Lamontagne a ride sometime between midnight and 7 a.m. on Oct. 22.
They say the witness, believed to be male, may have met Lamontagne in the area of Nantucket Avenue in Dartmouth, near the Macdonald Bridge. The pair may have visited a local coffee shop.
Police say they don't believe this potential witness was involved in the homicide, adding they are not looking for any additional suspects at this time.
HRP haven't given a description for the witness, but they describe Lamontagne as white and in his mid-20s with dark hair. On that morning, he was wearing a camouflage hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and carrying a backpack.
The potential witness, or anyone else with information, is asked to contact police at 902-490-5020 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
Ryan Lamontagne appeared in court Tuesday by video link. He was returned to the East Coast Forensic Hospital for a 60-day psychiatric assessment.
In court documents, police say the young man is also charged with indecently interfering with human remains “by attempting to bury Linda Lamontagne.''
