Porter adds flights between Halifax and Toronto’s Pearson Airport

Haligonians will soon be able to fly to Pearson Airport with Porter Airlines.

Up until now, those heading to Toronto on that airline from Stanfield International only had the option to land at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.

Porter's executive vice president and chief commercial officer said this new service will provide more options for both Haligonians and Ontario tourists who want to visit our city.

“We are growing our total number of Halifax flights across multiple routes by nearly 50 per cent compared to pre-pandemic levels, averaging over 20 departures and arrivals per day,” Kevin Jackson said in a news release.

Those flying to Pearson will be on the company's new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, which Porter has said is quieter and more fuel efficient than other airplanes its size. They'll also have access to WiFi and power outlets.

And the planes are bigger with 132 seats — compared with the 78 seats on Porter's De Havilland Dash 8-400 fleet — but there's still only two seats per side of the aisle in each row, so nobody gets stuck in the middle.

Porter will still be using the Dash 8-400s for flights to Billy Bishop.

Non-stop service to Pearson begins February 23.
