New areas of HRM are showing their pride.
Halifax Regional Municipality says they've added new rainbow crosswalks in the following locations:
- Willet Street at Main (4 crosswalks)
- Portland Estates Blvd W at Portland Estates Blvd
- Cow Bay Road at Shore Road
- Quinpool Road at Harvard Street
- Quinpool Road at Vernon
They say the new paint jobs for those spots have been funded by the local area councillors and business improvement districts.
“The paint is a heavy-duty surface tolerant paint and an anti-slip additive has been added to increase durability, surface friction and reflectivity,” says HRM in a news release.
The rainbow flag is a symbol of the 2SLGBT2Q+ community.
“This fun and creative approach to sharing the municipality’s Pride as a community is just one way we celebrate and support Halifax Pride 2018,” says the municipality.
With Halifax Pride kicking off later this week, the municipality is also reminding business owners that business names and advertisements are not allowed in any street art.
They add, because paint on sidewalks can be slippery when wet, it is not permitted under municipal bylaws.
“It is in the interest of public safety that material, other than chalk sticks, not be applied on the right-of-way by residents and business owners,” they say.
