Nova Scotians will pause at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month to pay tribute to our veterans.
There will be several Remembrance Day ceremonies taking place throughout the Halifax-area.
Some may be by invitation only, and at some may lay wreaths ahead of time. Some organizers are eliminating post-ceremony gatherings. Also note, proof of vaccination, masks and physical distancing may be required, depending on the event.
If you're planning on heading to one of them, it's a good idea to give yourself plenty of time to find a parking spot. Drivers should expect more pedestrians than usual out and about.
Halifax Transit will be running on a holiday schedule, and buses, ferries and Access-A-Bus will be free for all veterans and military personnel, along with their accompanying family members, as long as they are in uniform or display their military identification upon boarding.
If you happen to be on a transit bus at 11 a.m., expect it to pull over at that time for three minutes of silence.
Halifax Regional Municipality says there will be a number of rolling street closures and traffic delays as Remembrance Day processions make their way to local ceremonies honouring veterans and those still serving with the Canadian Armed Forces.
HRM says parades will be marching to the following locations on Thursday morning:
- Province House, Halifax (10 a.m. to 12 noon). The parade will begin at the Maritime Museum, proceed north on Lower Water Street, west on George Street and then south on Hollis Street where they will stop for the ceremony. Following the ceremony, the parade will proceed south on Hollis Street, then turn east on Prince Street before ending on Lower Water Street.
- Cenotaph at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 164, Eastern Passage (10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.). The parade will begin at 1570 Shore Road, travel north and then proceed on Main Road to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 164.

It's also the last opportunity to catch the interactive “Storm the Beach” D-Day Experience. The Halifax Citadel Visitor Centre and Army Museum will be open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and admission is free.
The Greater Hammonds Plains / Lucasville Remembrance Day Ceremony will be virtual this year.
