The Halifax Regional Municipality says St. Margarets Bay Road will finally reopen to traffic on Friday.
The stretch between Quarry Road and Douglas Drive has been shut down for about 4 months.
Crews will still be on location completing the finishing touches of the construction project, including landscaping, driveways and site cleanup.
There will be two-way traffic when the road reopens, but there will be an altered centreline to accommodate the remaining work.
HRM says there's a chance a weekend road closure could happen if any of the additional touch-ups can't be done while keeping one lane open in each direction, but stressed that's not expected to be needed at this point.
The construction project started in late July, and was supposed to last 11-weeks.
Many local businesses say they have been hurt by the road closure, with some even choosing temporarily to close their doors due to lack of business.
Earlier this month, municipality spokesperson Nick Ritcey said the contractor could be subject to a $5,000 per day penalty for any delays.
In an email Monday, Ritcey said liquidated damages won't be assessed until the project is completely finished.
