Storm closures and cancellations: December 9, 2021

The first significant snowfall of the season has forced a number of closures and cancellations Thursday.
TRANSPORTATION:
Halifax Regional Municipality's winter parking ban doesn't officially kick in until next week, however vehicles can be towed at anytime under the Motor Vehicle Act if they are interfering with snow clearing operations. Halifax Regional Police ask drivers to make a responsible parking choice.
Halifax Transit resumed at noon, expect many routes to be on a snow plan.
SCHOOLS:
HRCE schools are closed today. Central office will also be closed.
CSAP schools are closed for the day
Dalhousie University has postponed Thursday exams and the campus is closed.
University of Kings College campus is closed.
Mount Saint Vincent University will stay closed today and on-campus classes are cancelled. Classes offered through Online Learning may continue, technology permitting.
All NSCC Campuses are closed.
NSCAD Campus closed for the day.
Cape Breton Regional Centre for Education schools closed for the day.
Strait Regional Centre for Eduction schools closed for the day
Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education schools closed for the day
Tri County Regional Centre for Education schools closed for the day
South Shore Regional Centre for Education schools closed for the day
Chigneto Central Regional Centre for Education schools closed for the day
SERVICES:
Feed Nova Scotia trucks won't be making deliveries today in the Halifax area. They are attempting to make alternate arrangements.
Halifax Public Libraries delaying opening until 2pm.
Decisions regarding court operations are made on a case-by-case basis with the Judiciary. Members of the public with matters before the court should check with their lawyer or contact the courthouse to confirm the status of their matter
Curbside collection of garbage, organics and recyclables is cancelled. If this is your day, your waste will be picked up on Saturday.
The Household Special Waste Depot at 20 Horseshoe Lake Drive will be closed on Saturday, Dec. 11 but will reopen on Saturday, Dec. 18.
The Rural Refuse Depot located at 21611 Highway #7 in Sheet Harbour will also be closed on Thursday, Dec. 9.
RECREATION:
The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic and the Museum of Natural History will remain closed today.
The Public Gardens will be closed on Thursday.
Many HRM recreation facilities reopened at noon.
Registration for the HRM aquatics and skating winter programs have been deferred until 2p.m.
BUSINESSES:
As of noon, the NSLC on Agricola Street is closed due to a power outage and the Spryfield location remains closed today due to a water main break in the area.
Discovery Centre will be open from 1pm – 4pm.
Irving Shipbuilding is cancelling the day shift on Thursday. The night shift and back shift will operate as scheduled.
Several other businesses will be delaying opening or staying closed today, it's best to call ahead.
