Tens of thousands of people in the Halifax area were without power on Tuesday morning after a powerful storm blew through.

The storm prompted wind and rainfall warnings. Temperatures spiked to 16 degrees overnight as thunderstorms lit up the night sky, bringing driving rain and pounding winds.

Nova Scotia Power was reporting more than 25,000 customers were without electricity province-wide as of 6 a.m. By 7:30 a.m. the number had dropped to 13,000.

The Clayton Park area and Dartmouth saw some of the largest outages overnight.

The storm was expected to taper off on Tuesday morning, and temperatures were forecast to plummet down to 2 degrees by the evening.
