T. Thomason preps for Halifax Pride showing

Homegrown talent T. Thomason has been nearly unstoppable as of late.

His successful transition saw Thomason undergo hormone therapy and relearn his singing voice, as well as change pronouns and his name. Now Thomason is back and more confident than ever.

It’s been a busy year, as Thomason has hit dates from the Pride Toronto Trans March to the Cavendish Beach Music Festival, the Festival D’Ete in Quebec City and now a date with hometown Halifax for the Gottingen Street Block Party on July 27.

“Things have been so great,” said Thomason, whose career trajectory changed with an appearance on The Launch. “I’ve hit a higher gear, and I’m trying to keep up and stay sane. I am constantly trying to move forward.”

His song Hope was chosen as the theme song for the Out LGBTQ Film Festival’s 2019 sizzle reel.

“It just got a really positive response, and I loved going to the opening party. I saw the reel for the first time on a streetcar in Toronto and started crying. I was so honoured,” he said.

“I’ve been feeling so great lately … and I’ve been brought closer to my voice and my performance style. I’m so proud and comfortable of who I am.”

Thomason’s brand new pop single Pleasure released at the beginning of July, to much praise.

“When people listen to Pleasure, I want them to have fun. It’s upbeat and bright, a little sexy, flamboyant and intentionally over the top at some points – it’s about having a good time and dancing your face off like no one’s watching,” said Thomason. “I want people to feel empowered about where they are now and excited about all the good that’s coming to them when they listen to this song.”

Thomason released three albums between 14 and 19, but this will be his first full-length album since transitioning.

“This is something I’ve been working on for four years. I’ve been doing this since the entire span of my transition. I’m so excited for it to come out,” he said.

“It’s time to get this thing out in the world, and I want people to hear it. We don’t have an official release date, but it’s coming really soon.”

Thomason can’t wait to headline the Gottingen Block Party on July 27, during Halifax Pride week. He has performed for numerous queer events and other Pride events across the country.

“I haven’t done Halifax Pride, and this here is my home. As scary as the world can be at the moment, it’s so important we keep pushing. We need to find reasons to come together and celebrate,” said Thomason.

He hopes people both reflect as well as enjoy themselves during 2019’s iteration.

“There are always things to learn and things to be done in a smaller community like Halifax. There are ways to include more people. But these lessons are a good thing, and we have to do the best we can.”
