Water in some HRM communities now expected to be restored by 4 p.m. (update)

10:45 a.m. update: Halifax Water now says crews expect to have the water back on in the impacted areas by 4:00 p.m.

If you live in the area highlighted red in the above photo and still have water, the utility is asking you to limit its use, if possible.

“This will extend the availability of water service to the greatest number of customers during the repair,” it said in a news release.

3 a.m. update: Halifax Water says the service shut down is now expected to last until noon on Tuesday.

If you live in Lower Sackville, Waverley, Fall River or Windsor Junction, you might not have water overnight.

Halifax Water crews will be repairing a water main near Cobequid Road and Glendale Avenue, and will need to shut down service. Traffic in that area will be down to one lane in each direction.

Work is expected to start at 9 p.m. Monday and wrap up by 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The utility recommends planning ahead and storing any drinking water that may be needed during that time in clean containers before 9 p.m.

Some customers in the affected area may still have water, but it could be discoloured and flow at a lower pressure.

“Customers who experience discoloured water should run the COLD water at one faucet for about 10 minutes,”  says Halifax Water in a news release. “You should see the water clear.”

“Do not use the hot water faucet since this will draw discoloured water into your hot water heater/tank, which could make the problem worse. If the water fails to clear after 10 minutes, wait for a few hours and again try running only the cold water.”
