What’s open and what’s closed Labour Day weekend

Here's a look at what will be open and closed on the Labour Day weekend:
BUSINESSES
Labour Day is a designated retail closing day in Nova Scotia, which means you can expect most stores and businesses to be shut down on Monday. This includes grocery stores, NSLCs and malls.
Most pharmacies will be open, however they may have reduced hours of operation Monday.
Expect banks to be closed Monday, some may also be closed on Sunday.
Several other businesses may be closed or have reduced operating hours on Monday, it's best to call ahead.
TRANSPORTATION
Halifax Harbour Bridges says there will be one Dartmouth-bound lane closed on the MacKay Bridge from 7a.m. – 7 p.m. Saturday. There are no other planned closures on the Macdonald or MacKay bridges this weekend.
Halifax Transit will run on a holiday schedule Monday.
On-street parking will be free at meters on Labour Day.
SERVICES
All branches of the Halifax Public Libraries will be closed Monday.
Canada Post will not be collecting or delivering mail on Monday.
The Emera Oval will be open on Labour Day from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. (weather permitting).
Many other municipal recreation facilities will be closed Monday. Residents are advised to call ahead.
If you want to go swimming, there will be no lifeguards on duty at municipal beaches after 5 p.m. Friday. Supervised swimming ends for the season at that time. “Know your swimming limitations if you choose to swim in unsupervised bodies of water,” said Halifax Regional Municipality in a news release. “Always swim with a buddy in supervised areas and adults should never leave children unsupervised in the water.”
There will be no solid waste collection on Monday. If that's your day, you're asked to put your garbage, organics or recyclables on Saturday Sept. 1.
The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility, the Halifax recycling facility, and municipal composting facilities will be closed on Monday, but will be open for regular operating hours on Saturday.
The residential Household Special Waste Depot on Horseshoe Lake Dr. will be closed on Saturday.
The 311 Contact Centre will be operating on regular hours Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The five Customer Service Centres that provide in-person access to municipal services and payments will be closed Labour Day.
