What’s the most Canadian food or drink?

By Meghan Groff

A survey aimed to find out the most Canadian food or drink.

A poll by local firm Narrative Research conducted in partnership with Logit Group found 58 per cent think maple syrup is the item that best represents our country.

Poutine is a distant second with 17 per cent, however only 11 per cent of Atlantic Canadians gave that answer.

Narrative Research said older demographics were more likely to stick with syrup, while younger people were more likely to mention the fries covered with cheese curds and gravy.

Beer and salmon both got 4 per cent, Caesars and Nanaimo bars each got 3 per cent. And the following items each got two per cent; donuts, lobster, Tourtière, Bannock and Ketchup chips.

Somehow donairs did not make the list.
