Charges laid in Sunday morning shooting

A man is being charged with attempted murder in a Dartmouth shooting Sunday morning.

Halifax Regional Police were called to the area of Portland Street and Portland Hills Drive just before 5:30 a.m. where they found a 27-year-old woman with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers arrested five men at the scene.

Spencer Sinclair Thompson, 37, is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today to face charges of:

  • Attempted murder
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Aggravated assault
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of an offence
  • Discharge firearm with intent
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited weapon
  • Carrying a concealed firearm
  • Unsafe storage contrary to regulations (two counts)
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (two counts)
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (two counts)
  • Possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized (two counts)
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to firearm prohibition (six counts)

Durrell Samuel Diggs, 24, is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today to face charges of:

  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Unsafe storage contrary to regulations (two counts)
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (two counts)
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (two counts)
  • Possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized (two counts)
  • Unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle
  • Possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Possession contrary to firearm prohibition (three counts)

The other three, aged 25, 26 and 28, will appear in court at a later date to face charges in relation to the incident. Police did not provide any details on what those charges will be.
