Mount Uniacke man facing additional child pornography charges

A Mount Uniacke is facing additional child pornography charges after being arrested for the second time this month.

RCMP's Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit first searched a home in that community on Oct. 5 after getting a tip from the National Child Exploitation Crime Centre alleging child pornography was being shared from the residence.

Kevin Ernest Lavigne, 58, was arrested at the home and charged with two counts of possession of child pornography and one count of transmitting child pornography before being released on a number of conditions.

Lavigne was arrested again at his home last Wednesday during a second search by police and is now also facing additional charges of sexual exploitation, sexual assault, and making child pornography.

He has been remanded into custody and will appear in Shubenacadie Provincial Court today.

The Mounties are reminding Nova Scotians they are required to report any suspected child pornography.

“This means that anyone who encounters child pornography material or recordings must report it to the police,” they said in a news release.

“Failing to report suspicious activity and materials could result in penalties similar to failure to report child abuse set out in the Child and Family Services Act.”

Suspected offences can be reported to local police or through Cybertip, Canada's National tipline for reporting online sexual exploitation of children.
