Ultimate Home Comfort celebrates 25 years with a new location

By Mathew Lajoie

The unofficial start to summer barbecue season might not be until the end of May, but Ultimate Home Comfort is already cooking up something that should make their customers extremely happy.

After 25 years serving Halifax from their popular showroom location on Chain Lake Drive, the area’s number one barbecue, fireplace, propane and HVAC retailer is opening a second location in Dartmouth. That temporary location – which is currently offering Ultimate Home Comfort’s full line of products – will eventually move to a brand new 10,000-square-foot superstore when finished. It’s a natural progression for a company respected in the area for providing the top notch service for which owner George Hill has always been known.

“After 25 years it was just time,” said Hill, who got his start in the business 40 years ago at Superior Propane in St. John, NB. Even with the lingering economic uncertainties brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, Hill said expansion was inevitable given the continued growth of the business, which has become the top distributor of Napoleon Barbecues and other home comfort products in Atlantic Canada. Hill attributes all of that success to the company’s Ultimate Guarantee, which strives to ensure every Ultimate Home Comfort customer is 100 percent satisfied with their purchases and service.

“We try to do everything better,” said Hill. “We have two full time service guys. No other hearth store does. We have an excellent installer, the best guy in the city. We have four full time retail salespeople. We’ve got the staff and the back up to stand behind everything we sell. If there’s anything you don’t like about your product, installation or service, we’ll do whatever we have to make it right. That’s my own personal philosophy.”

Barbecue afficionados already salivating at the thought of a summer spent around the grill will appreciate Ultimate Home Comfort’s preference for Napoleon, the premium Canadian manufacturer of top line barbecues and fireplaces. With features such as 304 series restaurant grade commercial stainless steel construction, Hill says Napoleon barbecues set the standard for outdoor cooking.

“If you want a barbecue that will last forever, you buy Napoleon,” said Hill. “The body is guaranteed for a lifetime. If the shell ever deteriorates they’re guaranteed. We’ve had Napoleon barbecues that were 21 years old that you could still cook on. And you can still get parts for them after 21 years. We call them the forever barbecue.”

One thing that isn’t forever is their large-scale availability. Like many manufacturers operating during the pandemic, Napoleon has had challenges keeping up production to match demand. Fortunately, Ultimate Home Comfort currently has a healthy stock of Napoleon barbecues, but with their pandemic special offer, those supplies could rapidly disappear.

“The one thing Ultimate Home Comfort does that nobody else does is we deliver it, we set it up, we test it out and remove old product.,” said Hill. “In times of COVID we ensure non-contact delivery which is important. The moment you buy from a big box retailer you’re dealing with a 1-800 number in the U.S.  If you buy from Ultimate Home Comfort you’re not going to have to worry about it. If there’s any problem in the first 12 months we just come and fix it. If you’re thinking about buying a new one, this is the time.”
