Dumais scores late as Mooseheads down Cataractes

By Mark Hodgins

The Halifax Mooseheads squeaked out a win in a tight Saturday noon showdown with the Shawinigan Cataractes.

Alexandre Doucet opened the scoring for the Moose in the first period. The goal was Doucet's 43rd of the season, which leads the QMJHL.

Halifax would extend the lead to 2-0 on a goal in tight from Evan Boucher. The Herd held onto that lead into the second intermission.

Things got tough for Halifax in the third, as Shawinigan's Lorenzo Canonica potted two goals in just over three minutes to knot the game up at 2 goals apiece.

As has been the case many times this season, Halifax's Jordan Dumais made the big play when it mattered.

Dumais beat Shawinigan's netminder low to the glove side to give Halifax the 3-2 lead in the third period.

Mathieu Cataford would toss one into the empty net for some insurance and Marcus Vidicek would add another late, as the Mooseheads skated to a 5-2 final over Shawinigan.

Halifax will be back in action on Friday night as the Acadie Bathurst Titan pay a visit to Scotiabank Centre. That game goes at 7 p.m., and don't forget to tune in for the pre-game show with Garreth MacDonald at 6:30 p.m. on CityNews 95.7.
