Halifax Mooseheads’ president excited to see team back in action this weekend

The president of Halifax Mooseheads says the team is excited to return to play this weekend for the first time since last November.

But things will look a little different this time around, as current provincial restrictions prohibit in-person spectators until at least Feb. 8, as which point the province will reassess the COVID situation.

Brian Urquhart says he hopes fans can attend games sooner rather than later.

“Our business depends on fans being in the building and we understand being able to cheer on the Mooseheads is an important for a lot of people in our community so we're really hoping we can get back and play in front of our core fans beyond February 8,” said Urquhart. 

But Urquhart added they're still grateful to be able to return to the ice considering many provinces are seeing high numbers of COVID-19 cases.

“The reason we're back playing is the development of our players and for their health and wellbeing,” he said. “We're happy to live in a spot in North America where we have that opportunity because we understand a lot of our colleagues don't have that opportunity.”

The Mooseheads visit Cape Breton to take on the Eagles on Saturday and then return to Halifax to welcome the Charlottetown Islanders on Sunday.
