Vaccination clinics coming to HRM high schools

The first batch of school-based immunization clinics in the province are opening in Halifax next week.
Letters went home to parents on Thursday informing them that the Capital District Health Authority will hold vaccination clinics in high schools across HRM next week.
The letter to parents in the Citadel High family of schools says teachers and students at the high school can get the shot during the day. The clinic will be open to students, families and staff from the feeder schools and the general public in the evening.
The news came a day after another H1N1 death in Nova Scotia – the first one in an otherwise healthy person.
Marine biologist Stephen Nolan, 46, was described as an outdoorsman and an adventurer who had no underlying medical conditions.
Nova Scotia’s Chief Public Health officer says the death reinforces the need for all nova scotians to get immunized.
“While we say there are groups that are at increased risk, nobody is at no risk,” Dr. Robert Strang told reporters on Thursday.
Strang says he’s encouraged that some people are are overcoming their apathy toward the shot.
“Certainly still a lot of public interest in getting immunized and we certainly want to encourage Nova Scotians who haven’t yet been immunized to continue to come out,” he said.
So far in Nova Scotia, there have been 205 hospitalizations due to H1N1 this flu season and 720 lab-confirmed cases.
