School board support staff vote for strike

Support staff at school boards across the province have voted to strike.
The employees – who include bus drivers, teachers’ aides and janitors – voted 91 per cent in support of job action to back contract demands over the weekend.
The strike would affect every school district in Nova Scotia except the Halifax Regional School Board.
The workers want the same 2.9 per cent raise given to teachers and community college staff.
The cbc reports the government is offering 2.9 per cent for the first two years of a four-year contract – but one per cent for each of the last two.
A union spokesperson says although the workers will be in a legal strike position in two weeks, no action will be taken until the new year.
