Mistake means major back pay for councillors

Regional councillors are getting a little something extra in their stockings just in time for Christmas.
City officials have discovered a mistake in the formula used to calculate the councillors’ salaries – and it’s been made every year for the last four years.
That means the city is shelling out nearly $250,000 in retroactive pay to current and former councillors.
Turns out they were increasing the rate of salaries by only half the amount they should have.
Councillor Dawn Sloane tells Metro Halifax the situation is a hassle, and says the optics are not good.
Councillors and the mayor got a raise just five weeks ago.
