Councillors angered by parking ban tickets

This year’s winter parking ban is only a few days old and it’s already angering motorists – as well as some local councillors.
Since the ban began on Monday more than $10,000 in tickets have been stuck under wiper blades across the city.
Coun. Sue Uteck tells Metro, councillors were told there would be some common sense with the ban this year. She calls Monday morning’s ticket blitz “a tax grab,” saying the current rules do nothing to deter street parking during actual storms.
Area resident Hal Forbes tells CTV there’s not enough off-street parking to go around.
“We all have to pick up our vehicles and tiptoe someplace and get them tucked,” he said. “But there’s just no place in the downtown core to put them.”
The fine for getting caught parking on the street has doubled to $50 since last year.
