Hovercraft debate delayed

Regional councillors have delayed a debate on a proposed hovercraft ferry until January.
St. Margaret’s Bay businessman Jay Hasson says he could have his two hovercraft in service by February, and was at last night’s council meeting to ask for an approval in principle.
But, councillors said they needed more information, and voted to hold the debate in January.
That will give municipal staff and Hasson time to develop a detailed financial plan.
Each hovercraft would be able to carry 100 passengers from Bedford to the downtown core, and Hasson hopes to keep fares at $5 or less. Although the service would be privately operated, it’s expected the city would chip in some funding.
