62% of NB population vaccinated against H1N1

FREDERICTON, N.B. – New Brunswick’s chief medical officer of health says the province stands an excellent chance of fighting off a third wave of the H1N1 flu.
Dr. Eilish Cleary says more than 460,000 New Brunswickers, or about 62 per cent of the population, have been vaccinated.
She says over 80 per cent of children up to the age of nine, who tend to be the key spreaders of the flu, have received the shot.
Cleary says it’s unfortunate that seven New Brunswick families will be grieving this Christmas because of H1N1-related deaths, but she says the vaccination program has saved thousands of lives across Canada.
The advertising campaign and mass vaccination programs across the province will end Saturday.
Cleary says vaccinations will still be available through public health and some doctors and she encourages anyone who has not been vaccinated to get the shot.
